About Us
Ellen “Nell” Coogan
Ellen “Nell” Coogan graduated cum laude from Vermont Law School in 1982. Ms. Coogan worked as a public defender, civil litigator, and school administrator before focusing her professional career on dispute resolution.
Ms. Coogan completed the Mediation Certification Program at Woodbury College and the Mediation Workshop at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Over the past 15 years, she has earned the trust and confidence of parties and their lawyers. She has mediated hundreds of matters including, among many others, divorces, school and workplace claims, and employer-employee disputes. In addition, Ms. Coogan performs Title IX investigations, workplace investigations and Independent Reviews of a school’s response to a harassment complaint.
She is a member of the Vermont Chapter of the Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
Christopher D. Ekman
Christopher D. Ekman is a graduate of Cornell University and a 1982 graduate of Vermont Law School where he received a Master’s Degree in Environmental Law in addition to his law degree. Before retiring from the practice of law at the end of 2021, Mr. Ekman focused on civil litigation, with an emphasis on professional liability defense, business transactions, and dispute resolution – including mediation and arbitration.
Mr. Ekman completed the Mediation Workshop at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. He has participated in hundreds of mediations – both as a lawyer representing clients and as a mediator – in matters as varied as partnership, contract and business disputes, personal injury actions, construction claims, fire losses, professional negligence claims and property disputes.
Having grown up in a bilingual family, Mr. Ekman speaks French fluently.
